Make It A ‘Green’ X-Mas This Year With Energy-Saving LED Holiday Lights | Outdoor lighting Services Edina MN

Thursday, December 8th, 2011

Back in the early days when people first began decorating the exteriors of their homes and Christmas trees for the holidays, actual wax candles were sometimes brought in to do the job. Now I don’t have to tell you why this was an exceedingly dangerous and unpopular idea.

In the decades to follow, companies like General Electric satisfied the growing demand for safe, affordable Christmas lights by manufacturing strings of variously colored tiny bulbs, which became the industry main-stay for a very long (I remember these as a kid myself). Then an extensive lull came over the Christmas Light industry, with no new technology arriving on the scene for decades, until only just recently: LED lights.

Light Emitting Diodes, regularly called LEDs, are really nothing more than just tiny light bulbs that fit easily into an electrical circuit. But unlike ordinary incandescent bulbs, they don’t have a filament that will burn out, and they don’t get especially hot. In fact, LED lights give off such a low amount of heat, that they remain cool to the touch, even after they’ve been turned on and going for hours. This is much safer for curious children, and obviously reduces fire danger when you’re not at home.

Plus, LED’s only use about 10% of the energy that regular Christmas bulbs require. And whereas the old fashioned lights would last around 1,200 to 1,500 hours each, LED lights can go for an impressive 50-60,000 hours! Over time, this dramatic shift in energy output will save you hundreds of dollars when you get that dreaded electric bill in January.

In addition to the conservation benefits, LED’s give off a more radiant, gorgeous glow, their brilliance doesn’t fade over time, and they’re even programmable and dimmable should you wish to do so. The choice seems obvious to me. Make it an LED Christmas! Our outdoor Edina Holiday lighting services team at Architectural Landscape Design are waiting to help you and your family do exactly that by making it a more Earth-friendly green holiday season this year with their wide selection of LED holiday Christmas lights and displays. So do your part this Christmas and get more by using less energy. It only takes a phone call: 952-292-7717.

Be The Toast Of Eden Prairie This Holiday With A Dazzling Display Of Outdoor Christmas Lights

Thursday, December 8th, 2011

Following the end of WW2, the United States enjoyed many years of unparalleled prosperity. For the first time, household appliances became commonplace, families took vacations together, and more Americans than ever before purchased automobiles. The car has probably done more to alter the way we live today than any other convenience over the last century. As odd as it may sound at first, widespread automobile usage actually helped pave the way for outdoor holiday lighting.

As a way of mimicking New York’s famed Christmas tree at Rockefeller Center, businesses in Los Angeles along Wilshire Blvd. (the ‘Miracle Mile’) set-up 27 giant illuminated showmen in 1957. Reflective of the urban sprawl of Southern California, the Wilshire Blvd. display appealed to passing motorists who could look out their windows as they drove past and enjoy the lights. The public loved it.

In the coming years, this unique automobile-centered approach to community light designs inevitably lead to bigger, brighter, and ultimately more spectacular light displays capable of catching passengers’ attention as they drove by. In fact, one famous mile-long display of lights in Altadena California were so bright that passing cars didn’t even need their headlights on to see where they were going.

Pretty soon businesses all across the southland started holding seasonal competitions to see who could produce the most incredible Christmas light displays, and before long, adjacent neighborhoods got into the craze as well, stringing lights along the eves of their homes, and throughout shrubs and trees. Fancy electrical light displays for the front lawn weren’t too far behind either, and within a matter of only a year or so, a nation-wide holiday tradition was born.

These days, when motorists head-out in search of the most beautiful outdoor light displays at Christmas, they’ve traded in the commotion of downtown for the hush of suburbia. Neighborhood homes ablaze in outdoor holiday lights now draw many thousands of admirer’s each December. From Santa Monica California to your very own Eden Prairie Minnesota, Christmas is the time to show off your joyful spirit. Call ALDMN for Outdoor Holiday Lighitng Services Eden Prairie MN at 952-292-7717 and let there be light!

Thursday, December 8th, 2011

Not to be out done of course, some of the world’s truly colossal venues strut their holiday wares as well with some pretty remarkable outdoor embellishments of their own . . .

In Paris each year the famed Champs-Elysées is emblazoned with thousands of sparkling lights, acting as a virtual arrow designed to guide the eye to the cities main attraction, the Eiffel Tower, itself studded with Christmas lights from head to toe, all 1,038 feet of it. In Australia the Sydney Opera House gets a make-over as well each December, its iconic half-shells decked with thousands of sparkling lights seen all over the harbor and beyond. Opened in 1849 and widely regarded as the world’s most famous department store, London’s 1 million square foot Harrods’s department store attracts visitors far and wide during the weeks leading up to Christmas with its unparalleled display of glowing holiday magic.

Okay, so maybe you’re not saddled with the job of decorating something as immense as the Golden Gate Bridge, but that doesn’t mean you can’t approach your own humble abode with the same sort of Christmas-induced gusto. Go ahead and deck the halls with vibrant abandon and a sense of spirited fun. The good thing is you don’t have to go it alone. Architectural Landscape Design is there to help make your cherished domicile into a Christmas wonderland all its own. So don’t wait another minute. Transform Any Minneapolis Neighborhood Into A Colorful Wonderland With Outdoor Holiday Light Installations

Thursday, December 8th, 2011

Since roughly the mid-1960’s and the advent of tract housing across the United States, outdoor holiday lighting adorning homes has become not only big business, but an equally important tradition now celebrated in residential neighborhoods all over the world.

During the early stages of the custom, weatherproof strings of multi-colored lights were strung primarily along the eaves of houses. In the years to follow though, families got increasingly more creative and bold with their Christmas-themed displays, adding twinkling signs, hollow plastic figurines lit from inside (Santa, snowmen, etc.), and lots of other types of inventive ways to usher in the season of good cheer.

These days, whole swaths of neighborhoods linked together via connecting  highways across entire states have taken the idea of outdoor residential holiday lighting to completely new and far-reaching heights. As an inspiring example, look no further than the annual Holiday Trail of Lights held in northeast Louisiana and parts of eastern Texas.

Stretching across six cities and composed of almost 100 million individual lights, the legendary showcase isn’t just about electrical luminosity: Firework shows, live entertainment, Christmas musicals, parades, ice-skating, horse-drawn carriages, and festivals galore help link the communities together in what has to be the largest Christmas Party on the planet.

True to their historical image, the folks who help put on the Holiday Trail Of Lights tout it as a perfect example of ‘good ‘ol southern hospitality,’ but that certainly doesn’t mean that other neighborhoods can’t get in on the holiday action as well and fire up a festival all their own.

Minneapolis has long been known for its impressive outdoor holiday lighting displays too, so if you think your block could use a little more holiday merriment, lean on the team of professionals who make installing outdoor holiday lights not only their business, but their pleasure: Architectural Landscape Design. They’ll install, maintain, and take down all the lights without you having to do a thing . . . except bask in the glow. Call today: 952-292-7717.

From St. Paul To Seattle: A Brief History Of Outdoor Holiday Light Displays

Monday, December 5th, 2011

The Christmas holiday is replete with an array of rich decorative traditions that go back centuries. From as far back as pre-Christian times, Roman citizens brought branches from evergreen plants indoors during the winter. Nativity scenes became popular in 1223 thanks to St. Francis of Assisi, and by the early 18th century, the now-famous custom of decorating a tree had taken root in Europe.

These days however, outdoor holiday lights adorning homes all over the world are some of the most recognizable, wide spread, and visually stunning methods of ringing in the Christmas season.

While the first accepted account of a Christmas tree being lit with electrical lights goes back to NYC circa 1882, it wasn’t until roughly four decades later that the public had a chance to fiddle with the colorful twinkling lights themselves. There were some small outdoor lighting sets offered for sale as ‘safe to use’ for outside decorations before 1927 when they became much more mainstream, but unfortunately these early batches were small, dangerous, and extremely impractical for the average family.

Once the craze had officially taken off, novelty companies, and ultimately, General Electric began manufacturing electric outdoor lighting kits that were affordable for practically everyone. By the time the 1930’s rolled around, more American were using them than ever before, and the rest is, pardon the cliché: history.

Part of the reason why decorating for the holidays can feel like such a chore is that it takes quite a hefty effort to hang all those lights. Well there’s no need to exhaust yourself with the outdoor holiday decorating when there’s plenty more things that need your attention, so why not hand the chore over to those who do it professionally: Minneapolis and St. Paul’s own Outdoor Lighting Design Team. We’ll install, maintain, and remove all the decorations themselves, leaving you and yours to enjoy the holiday season the way it was meant to be experienced: joyfully and at peace. Call today: 952-292-7717.
